Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Enrolled or accepted in a college or university in Canada
- Pursuing a course of study leading to a diploma, undergraduate, or graduate degree
- Interest in data journalism, demonstrated through:
- A published news story
- Work for a college publication
- Journalism-related projects

Submission Requirements
The Canadian Journalism Scholarship requires that applicants must submit:
- An example of journalism work showcasing data skills (e.g., spreadsheets, web scraping, mapping tools)
- At least one data visualization (e.g., a chart or a map) created by the applicant
- An explanation of how the data was compiled and the resources used
- For group projects, applicants must explain their specific role and proof of contribution
- Work must have been produced within one year of the scholarship closing date
- A single submission of individual work is preferred; if part of a team, applicants must provide a detailed explanation of their role
- Previous winners are not eligible to apply
Selection Process
All entries will be reviewed by a jury of experienced journalists in collaboration with the CAJ. The official selection committee consists of:
